This is a general agenda/goals for the Counter-Recruitment (CR or Military Recruitment Education) Workshops planned by MREN for Arise and others. Details may be changed as we facilitate the workshops and see what works and doesn't, but in the meantime, here it goes....
While many of us are likely opposed to Military Intervention and more specifically to the war(s) the government is currently embroiled in, the goal of these workshops is to disseminate information about the military that many people don't know. When the military recruits, it never tells the whole truth. MREN believes that young people need to know the whole truth before they enlist. These workshops are designed to teach young people (particularly those targeted by the military), their allies and other interested community members and families the truth behind recruiters' propoganda.
The Goals of the initial workshop (CR 101) are:
1) to understand who the military is recruiting and what the targeted
young people are tempted by
2) to learn the methods used by the military recruiters (including Leave
No Child Behind)
3) to learn the "the whole story" to fill in the gaps of what the
military puts out there
4) to learn the alternatives out there for young people who may think
there are none
Military Myths touched upon include:
$50,000 toward college
The Delayed Enlistment Program and what happens if you change your mind
Job training in the military
Salary and benefits in the military
Choice in the military
Active duty
When you leave the service
The Goals for the second workshop (CR 102) are:
1) to revisit the information covered previously (if needed) and answer
questions that people may have
2) to practice talking to young people about military recruitment tactics
and their options and practice answering their questions
3) to brainstorm ways to get the information to targeted young people and
their families
4) to get involved with what MREN is doing and/or plan future CR
opportunities of your own

Is this enough information, or do you want/need more? Don't hesitate to
let me know.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend...
