Friday film series by the Northampton Committee:

All films are screened on Friday at 7 p.m., at the Media Education Foundation’s Frances Crowe Community Room, 60 Masonic Street , behind Woodstar CafĂ©, in downtown Northampton .  MEF is wheelchair accessible.  Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted.  Discussion follows the screenings.

-- January 29:  "The Young Honduran Revolution":  Documentary about 3000 university students battling police on campus following the 2009 military coup.  90 min.; Spanish with English subtitles.

-- February 5:  "USA vs Al-Alarian":  In 2003, university professor and pro-Palestinian activist Sami Al-Arian was arrested in Florida, charged with providing material support to a terror organization, and held in solitary confinement for more than 2 years.  While the Bush administration considered this a landmark case in its campaign against terrorism, Sami Al-Arian claims he was targeted in an attempt to silence his political views.  52 min.  Melva Underbakke, a friend of Al-Arian's family, will speak as an eyewitness to the events in Florida.

-- February 19:  "Death and Taxes":  US citizens, including the Pioneer Valleyâ's Juanita Nelson, talk about their motivations for and methods of war tax refusal and redirecting their tax money to peace.  30 min.  Local war tax resisters will speak after the film.
