How to contact your Washington employees:

The Friends Committee on National Legislation states (as of 2/8/02), “Although there is a continuing need for communication with Congress, postal mail is still not  getting through very well. (A result of the anthrax incidents.) At this time, email and faxes are much more effective tools for getting your message to members of Congress.”

Recent information has it that letters to local offices of senators and congressmen get to them more quickly than letters to their Washington offices.

The FCNL  creates staff-written letters which can be mailed, emailed or faxed to members of Congress or the President.  The fax method is probably the most effective since Congressional representatives have been swamped with email, to the point where some of them ignore it.

The FCNL web page http://www.fcnl.org/ makes it easy to contact your Washington employees.  It allows you to select one of several FCNL-composed messages, modify it if you would like, or compose your own message.  This message is then sent by email, fax, or letter (you choose).  A copy is sent to you by email if you wish.  The website can “remember” your name and address and “fill in those blanks” for you.

For example to express your views on budget priorities, here are the steps:  (1) With your browser go to the FCNL Legislative Action Center , http://capwiz.com/fconl/home/, click on “Issues and Legislation,” click on “Action Alerts and Updates,” select “express your views on budget priorities,” fill in your ZIP code, select your intended recipient(s) from the senators and your representative who are shown, choose the medium (email or fax or letter – fax is best these days), tailor the message to your liking, fill in your name and address and email (if the FCNL site has not filled it in for you already, having “remembered” it), and click “Send message.”

Note: This is only one of many paths possible on the website.  (Since the FCNL provides the website and sends the fax or letter free, remember to make a contribution to this great organization!  245 2nd St NE, Washington DC 20002-5795.)
